need user manual for Chinese Galaxy s4

Posted: 28 Nov 2013 07:24 AM PST

Buying cell phones direct from China has its drawbacks. Although the phones are usually very nice, the manufacturers often leave a few important things out. Like a brand name. And a user manual one can actually read and understand. Just got one of these puppies. It appears to be a clone of the Galaxie S4. So I DLd the GS4 user manual (the Verizon version...close enough, I thought).

Well, it is close but not close enough. There are too many menues that don't match up.

The "brand name" in the tiny, useless user manual is: GSM/GPRS. The model number (from the phone) is: Y9190.

From this info, is it possible to determine what, if any, major brand user manual will work with this phone?

Appreciate your help.

Apple vs. Samsung: Who really won

Posted: 25 Nov 2013 09:37 PM PST

It turns out the fight between Apple and Samsung over patent infringements may never really end. Every time we think one or the other has finally won, we hear about another court battle that is coming up. Not only have the two fought over and over in court in the US, but they have also been fighting all over the world going from country to country to keep it up. Apple claiming Samsung stole technology while Samsung claims that is absurd, the fight continues.

Samsung lost this battle

Samsung "lost" its most recent court case when a jury ordered Samsung to pay Apple $290 million for infringing patents. Apple was asking for $380 million and Samsung only wanted to pay out $52 million, according to PC World, so it seems as if Apple won this time. The verdict was made to help Apple make up for lost profits because of the popularity of the Samsung phones. Now, Apple is owed $930 million from Samsung since a verdict last year in San Jose also directed Samsung to pay $450 million. But just because Samsung lost the most recent couple of battles doesn't mean that Apple has won the war.

Samsung winning in the end

The reason why the jury, in the end, decided to award the cash to Apple was because they agreed Apple must have lost some customers to Samsung. The whole argument behind everything was that Samsung used Apple's technology to create phones and steal clients from Apple. Samsung argued, on the other hand, that customers who chose Samsung did so for reasons not associated with the proposed thieved technology and that Apple did not lose any customers.

In the end, it looks like Samsung has gotten away with stealing the Apple technology, or at least creating very similar technology, and only got a small slap on the wrist. Samsung has new, permanent customers because of their great phones which means Apple has permanently lost a lot of customers. Apple may have won a bit of cash, but it will never make up for the lost customers, especially if Apple can't figure out a new way to innovate and bring old customers back. Since neither of them seem to be able to innovate, all they have left is to argue in court.

Technology still all the same with texting

No matter what these phone manufacturers do, none of them have figured out a way to create technology to get rid of texting. Texting is a key point to any good cell phone. Nobody has yet come up with a way to sell a phone without that important technology. That means your business is safe creating a completely new marketing strategy involving texting systems. Get started today, so you can beat out all your competition this holiday season. Getting your text marketing system in place may take a little bit of time, but it will be worth it in the end if you can bring in a lot of extra business.

Newbie looking for tips on family plans and smartphones

Posted: 24 Nov 2013 11:51 AM PST

Hi - I am a newbie to the forum...and to the smartphone world! We currently have 4 basic phones...3 talk/text on my in-laws AT&T family plan (about $80/month), and 1 Verizon talk-only from my employer (free). We are searching for new wireless service, and we are considering upgrading to 4 smartphones. I know, we are behind the times!

Based on talking to friends, family, and lookng on the internet, it looks like a 4 phone family plan with Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint for talk/text/data will cost over $200/month, plus any subsidized upfront cost and/or monthly cost for phones unless you BYOD. T-Mobile and Metro PCS seem to be offering the best prices for a family plan with 4 smart phones at about $100/month for unlimited talk/text/data, but you need to buy the phones upfront which can range from $50-$600 depending on the phone.

My parents recently switched their family plan from Sprint to T-Mobile for lower monthly rates and newer phones (they got four Galaxy S4's). They now have four Sprint HTC EVO 4G phones that they are not using, but they said the phones cannot be used on the T-Mobile network. I started a thread on the MetroPCS forum to see if the EVO can be used with MetroPCS. The EVO looks like a decent phone that is not too far behind the latest phones, and four free phones could be a nice way to get started.

It looks like Verizon generally has the best ratings overall, including coverage, but T-Mobile and MetroPCS coverage seems to be okay in my area based on the maps (southern New Jersey, about 45 minutes southeast of Phialdelphia PA). I guess if we went with T-Mobile or MetroPCS with no contraact, we could always drop them if coverage was unacceptable.

I would greatly appreciate any tips on family plans and monthly rates, as well as phones for our situation. Thank you!

I'm in the garage a lot so instead of using my data network I would like to pickup the wifi from my house. If I'm right outside the door I get it but once I go inside I can't. Is there some kind of booster I can install in my garage to stretch the signal? I don't really want to install something in the house there already to much junk in there lol. Thanks

Best Pre-Paid Cell Service

Posted: 10 Nov 2013 01:07 PM PST

I'm looking to get a "Pre-Paid" service. The question is, what phone carrier has the best quality, and service areas in the USA??

Thank You.

Is the new unlocked phone - really new?

Posted: 09 Nov 2013 07:34 PM PST

I recently bout a "new" unlocked cell phone from ebay. When I opened - the package and contents did not belong to OEM or carrier. That made me suspect that the phone was used/refurbished. When I asked the seller - they said: "The phone comes new from carrier as handset only and is arranged in a kit box (not retail box) with the necessary components such as battery, charger"

Should I trust the seller? Is it normal for carriers to send only the device to sellers and not even labels, stickers? Thank you.

Ipad 2 with AT&T cellular sim card use????

Posted: 06 Nov 2013 01:39 PM PST

Ipad 2 with AT&T cellular sim card. Getting mixed signals regarding ability to suspend that capability vice deactivate it once activated on a prepaid status. Apple sales said could suspend and use as needed, like for a trip etc., just buy another month. At Best Buy one "expert" said you could suspend until next time. The next one I talked to said no, When I told her better get their story straight, she called her AT&T buddy, who said could suspend, didn't have to deactive and get new sim card next time. Stopped at an AT&T store and they said only way to avoid continuing charges, even if not using it was to deactivate and get a new sim card next time an reactivate. Now totally confused. Help!! Can I suspend and unsuspend, and just buy another month, or does it require deactivation to preclude a month charge while sitting on the shelf. Than have to get another sim card and start all over again???Thanks

why do some numbers not show, teensafe

Posted: 04 Nov 2013 11:42 AM PST

Over all teensafe works ok, just slow on the uploads which is a apple issue.

Anyway, here is my problem... some numbers / text dont show on teen safe even thought they have been sent. I can go to Isearch on the phone and see where the message has been sent or received but it never shows on teen safe. What would the reason be for this?
and how would i fix the issue?

the text are from one I phone to a non i phone so i guess they are being sent as MMS messages which teensafe logs as well, but this one never showes up..

Is it possiable that is you turn off the Imessage and send as regular text it doesent log?

Thanks
