What Phone to Get?

Posted: 29 Jun 2014 11:04 PM PDT

First Off I am an Apple hater, however I do aknowledge them for the good work at being the only company with a half decent media player, the iTouch, Microsoft bring the Zune or something back! And their awesome syncing with itunes and whatnot although I dont buy music, I only have once.

But Google Plays App Sync is pretty good too further more I do love Linux and Android.

Onto the phone, sorry! Anyways I am with Verizon under my parents and I get my upgrade this month.
Which phone to get: Droid Razr Maxx, Samsung Galaxy S5, or HTC One M8. All have something to offer the others dont. All ready good phones but no idea what to choose please help!

Also note my dad had a Razr Maxx but the screen needs replaced, how much would that cost. When he broke it he switched to Apple to try it out :( :ah: But he wants to switch back but it needs repaired first! >:) :flamemad: :smart::laugh:

THANKS!!!
[Edit]
PS I currently have the Droid X2 and I love Motorola. Good phones for their time and invencible!

New Phone Plan

Posted: 29 Jun 2014 01:00 PM PDT

So my LG Optimus F3 with Virgin Mobile just took a crap on me after six months. No longer turns on at all. So I was debating on whether or not I should buy another one. My wife and I have two seperate VM plans. Mine is 45 dollars with unlimited text and data and 1200 minutes. Her plan is 25 dollars with unlimited text and data with 300 minutes and she's using LG Optimus V. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good plans with different cell phone companies that could rival these prices to justify me getting a newer phone lol. Any ideas?

HTC One M8 vs Samsung S5

Posted: 21 Jun 2014 04:47 PM PDT

Hi Again,

From my past post.

http://cellphoneforums.net/general-c...ml#post1541437

I am all set on the M8, then someone advised the new Samsung S5.

So, HTC M8 vs Samsung S5? They guy I spoke with at the Bell store today advised getting the M8, just because it has less software running in the background, less draw on the phone. He said the S5 has some stuff that needs to run, but slows the phone down.

M8 the better of the two?

Thanks.

NØØB Question regarding privacy . . .

Posted: 20 Jun 2014 03:18 PM PDT

So I swing on over to the catfood aisle at my local Target store, and there is a sign that says:
Quote:

Get $10.00 off your purchase of pet supplies! Just Text ________ and Target will ________ to get your $10-off-$40 coupon to you!
My NØØB Question is:

When I participate in one of these store (or other) "texting" invitations do I release my cell phone number to them? Man could I use that coupon. But I don't want Target to have my cell phone number!!

Help?

Nokia Lumia 920 vs Samsung Galaxy SIII vs Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini

Posted: 16 Jun 2014 12:55 PM PDT

I am looking to buy two unlocked phones, one for my sister and me. At this moment we can afford no more than 600$ thus we are looking for something good that fits into our price range

I am checking amazon and the Nokia Lumia 920 is selling for 270-285$. If I get this I could even buy two good impact cases.

Samsung Galaxy SIII is around 280-320$, though there are so many bad reviews about the phones not being unlocked, used, etc that I'm not so sure about getting one from those sellers.

Theres also the Samsung S4 mini, though Ive read that SIII is better than the Samsung S4 mini...and it is almost out of my budget. Around 290$-320$.

Samsung S4, S5 and Iphone 5 are out of our budget so I can't include them on my list....

What I do not know is If it would be wise to get the Nokia Lumia during this time of the year, or IF I should be loking for something else??

Any help will be appreciated!

How-to: Transfer Contacts from an iPhone to the ZTE Grand S Pro

Posted: 13 Jun 2014 01:33 AM PDT

Using iTunes to Transfer Contacts:

iTunes can be used to sync the contacts stored on your iPhone with a Google account. In turn, this enables you to sync the contacts from the account with your ZTE Grand S Pro. Synced contacts include the contact's name, number, address, email, image and any other detail provided in the contact file. NOTE: for this method you require a computer with iTunes installed and Internet access:

  1. Open iTunes on your computer
  2. Connect the iPhone to the PC using the proprietary USB cable
  3. After it connects, the iPhone will appear in iTunes. Click it to view the summary page
  4. Access the "Info" tab and place a check mark next to "Sync Contacts With"
  5. From the drop-down menu, select "Google Contacts"
  6. Enter your Google account's username and password. If you've already registered an account in iTunes, you can click "Configure" and select it from the list
  7. To start the syncing process between the iPhone and the account, click "Apply"
  8. On the ZTE Grand S Pro, register the same Google account as the one used in iTunes, and allow it to sync contacts with your device. NOTE: to add an account go to "Settings" > "Accounts"

Transferring Contacts via iCloud:

In case you have used the iCloud service on your iPhone prior to following this guide, then the contacts stored on your smartphone have most probably already been backed up on your iCloud account. By accessing your account through a computer with Internet access, you can export these contacts for use on an Android device.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your iPhone and visit https://www.icloud.com/
  2. Sign in with your iCloud account and click "Contacts"
  3. From the list, select the contacts that you wish to export
  4. Click the icon shaped like a cog wheel, located in the lower-left area of the screen
  5. Select "Export vCard" and wait for your computer to download the VCF file
  6. Once you've obtained the backup file, import it to "Google Contacts". Alternatively, connect the ZTE Grand S Pro to your computer and copy the file to the phone's "sdcard" directory. Next, launch the "People" app, tap "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "import from storage" or "import from SD card". If necessary, select an account and load the vCard file

Transferring Contacts via "My Contacts Backup":

If you wish to transfer your contacts without using a computer, you can rely on various third party applications such as "My Contacts Backup" to do the job. This is an iOS app that is capable of backup up your iPhone's contacts in a VCF file, which can then be sent to the ZTE via email.

  1. Go to the App Store and install "My Contacts Backup" on your iPhone
  2. Open the application and tap "Backup"
  3. Once the file is created, tap "Email" to attach the vCard file to it
  4. Send the email with the attachment to your own Gmail address
  5. Switch over to the ZTE Grand S Pro and open the email
  6. Download the attachment and import it via the "People" app, using the "Import" function

Using "Send Anywhere" to Transfer Contacts:

Last but not least, you can use "Send Anywhere" to transfer your contacts. Send Anywhere is an Android and iOS app that can transfer files and contacts cross-platform, via a P2P connection. As such, you are not required to have access to a computer

  1. Visit the Google Play Store and install "Send Anywhere" on the ZTE Grand S Pro
  2. Go to the App Store and install the same app on your iPhone
  3. After the app has been installed, launch it on both smartphones
  4. On the iPhone, tap "Send" > "Contacts"
  5. Mark the contacts that you want to transfer and tap "Send"
  6. Finally, select the desired method of transfer. You can tap "Receive" on the ZTE Grand S Pro in order to type in the randomly generated transfer code from the iPhone, or you can tap "Generate QR Code" on the iPhone and scan the code with the Grand S Pro's camera to begin the transfer

payLo NØØB with 3 questions: Carriers + Mfgs. + Phone Styles (eg. flip vs touchscreen)

Posted: 10 Jun 2014 07:01 PM PDT

I have 3 questions about the KYOCERA shipped to me with my free Assurance Wireless cell phone (Model TLAKE or Kona or JAX or whatever it is, your guess is as good as mine lol)

1. Does the phone have to be designated "payLo" or can any cell phone work?
_____And if so_____
2. Can any "payLo" model be substituted, or must it be Kyocera?
3. Can any carrier's "payLo" model be substituted, or must it be (in my case) an Assurance-branded replacement?

Thank you so much for this forum! izzy

APPS that can organize your life!

Posted: 05 Jun 2014 02:30 PM PDT

The commodity in shortest supply for any of us is time. While life was dedicated by the seasons for our ancestors, modern life means navigating near-constant demands on our time and attention. The human brain just isn't wired to operate in that environment,at least not for most of us. The majority will need some kind of crutch to keep track of our daily schedule -- and the device we're most likely to have with us that's capable of handling that task is our ever more powerful and connected smartphone.

The explosion in connected capability has unleashed a generation of new and powerful tools to help organize our day and find what we need. Trying to pick the best apps for managing the crush of tasks that crowd our days is difficult because we all don't need the same type of help. Some of the newer apps include predictive modeling, and some people find that their phone predicting their needs is a little creepy. With that caveat, here are my picks for the apps with the best options for keeping you on track.

Any.do
With any app there's always a fine line between functionality and simplicity, and Any.do walks that line better than almost any GTD (Get Things Done) app on the market. The task list is easy and intuitive, and the display can be modified and sorted multiple ways to fit your personal tastes. The missed call feature is particularly attractive, letting you return a call immediately or schedule a callback, which is then automatically added to your to-do list; or have Any.do ignore it. Like most good organizing apps, Any.do has the option to share tasks with one or more people, making it ideal for controlling your legions of minions as your plot to rule the world moves inexhoribly forward.

ToodleDo

If you're the type who is driven by priorities as much as scheduling, then ToodleDo is worth a look. Not only can you create a hotlist of tasks based on priorities, but with the built-in scheduler you can take a block of time and ToodleDo will fill it with the highest priority tasks. ToodleDo also has the option to record task times, so if you have the type of job where you need to support hourly billing, ToodleDo is a good choice. Part scheduler and part project management tool, this is the one for engineers and builders.

Evernote

If your definition of organization means keeping track of names, dates, and places, then Evernote is the app to check out. Not only can you capture voice, text, and photos, you can link them different ways and share them across all your devices. Layered on top of Evernote's organizational capabilities is the ability to set reminders and tasks related to the information you're gathering. The only niggle on Evernote is the storage on the free version is seriously anemic, and some of the history functions are disabled. If Evernote is for you, plan on spending the money for the premium version.

Google Now

Because Google Now isn't available on older versions of Android, it's been a slow to catch on. Google Now is part organizer and part context-aware Al. If you're a road warrior with a newer Android phone and large capacity battery, Google Now is an indispensable travel tool. Google Now knows where you are, knows your flight information, and will remind you when it's time to leave --- and show you the travel options available. If it's mealtime, Google Now will show you nearby restaurants. When the markets are open, Google Now automatically shows me my portfolio performance, and shows me a list of my online orders that are currently in transit. The voice recognition has improved dramatically; and the only downside is, because it keeps the GPS on, it's a bit of power hog. Android users can't mock the Apple faithful as Google Now was recently released for iOS.

Jorte Calendar

Jorte Calendar is one of the more popular apps on Google Play with over 132,000 user reviews. Jorte Calendar would accurately be described as a productivity app with the addition of Jorte Cloud. If you're comfortable with technology, and like the ability to customize everything, Jorte is your app. Jorte integrates with services like Google Voice and Google Maps. While Jorte is a solid performer when it comes to scheduling and organizing, the free service offerings are a bit anemic. Still, if you have the kind of job where you have to juggle dozens of moving parts and other vendors, like a wedding planner, Jorte will be worth the money.

Staying organized means more than a simple calendar app these days, it means finding the app that fits your lifestyle and conforms to your needs. The best apps are the ones that work best for the way you work and that's why I separated these by career field.

How-to: Easy Ways to Transfer Contacts from an iPhone to the Huawei Ascend P7 Mini

Posted: 22 May 2014 07:31 AM PDT

Using iTunes to Transfer Contacts:

One of the most common methods of contact transfer is through iTunes. The software allows you to sync contacts from an iPhone with a Google account, allowing you to then sync the contacts from the account to your Android smartphone. This method requires a computer with iTunes installed and Internet access.

  1. Launch iTunes on the computer
  2. Establish a connection between your iPhone and PC via USB
  3. After it connects, click the iPhone once it appears in iTunes
  4. Go to the "Info" tab and mark the "Sync contacts with" check box
  5. Next up, select "Google Contacts" from the drop-down menu
  6. If you haven't done so before, register your Google account in iTunes. Otherwise, you can click "Configure" and select an existing account from the list
  7. Click "Apply" to commence the syncing process
  8. Once the contacts have been synced, register the same Google account as the one used in iTunes, on the Huawei Ascend P7 Mini
  9. Allow Google to sync contacts with your Android smartphone

Transferring Contacts through iCloud:

Another method of transferring contacts from an iPhone using a Computer with Internet access is through iCloud. In case you've already activated the service on your iPhone, your contacts should be backed up on your iCloud account. You can export these contacts for use on the Android device. To do so:

  1. Open the Internet browser on your computer
  2. Go to https://www.icloud.com/ and sign in with your iCloud account
  3. Click "Contacts" and select the contacts that you wish to transfer
  4. With the desired contacts marked, click the "Settings" icon located in the lower-left area
  5. Click "Export vCard" and wait for the VCF file to be downloaded on your computer
  6. Next up, import the VCF file to "Google Contacts". Otherwise, you can connect the Ascend P7 Mini to your computer via USB, and copy the file to the phone's "sdcard" directory. Then, you need to launch the contacts app, and press "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "SD card" > "Next". Select an account and tap "Next", then choose the vCard file and tap "OK"

Transferring Contacts using "My Contacts Backup":

While the iTunes and iCloud methods require you to have computer access, you can still transfer your contacts without the need of a computer. To do so, you need to install certain third party apps, such as "My Contacts Backup". This is an iOS app that can backup and send your iPhone contacts via email.

  1. Download the "My Contacts Backup" app on your iPhone, via the App Store
  2. Launch the application and tap "Backup"
  3. Once the VCF file has been created, tap "Email" to attach the file to a new email
  4. Enter your own Gmail address as the email's recipient, and send it
  5. On the Huawei Ascend P7 Mini, open the email containing the attachment, and download it
  6. Import the VCF file's contacts using the people app and the "Import" option from the "Menu"

Using "Send Anywhere" to Transfer Contacts:

Another application that you can use is "Send Anywhere". It's an iOS and Android app that can transfer contacts and other file types cross-platform, through a P2P connection. As such, you are not required to have access to a computer

  1. Download "Send Anywhere" on your Ascend P7 Mini from the Play Store
  2. Install the application on your iPhone via the App Store
  3. After you've downloaded the app, open it on both smartphones
  4. On the iPhone, tap "Send" > "Contacts"
  5. Select the desired contacts and tap "Send"
  6. Finally, select the desired sharing method. By tapping "Receive" on the Ascend P7 Mini, you can enter the randomly generated transfer code from the iPhone. You can also tap "Generate QR Code" on the iPhone, and scan the code with the Android phone's camera to commence the transfer
