could use some advice/info about my cell phone issue.

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 02:48 PM PDT

Hi, i'm very happy i found this forum, i've been looking around online to see if i could find information, and advice about a cell phone issue i'm having. in July 2010, i switched to Virgin Mobile pre-paid, i love their prices, and the unlimited texting is really nice, and the cell phone brand i got, is the Virgin Mobile Kyocera Jax. :) i got it for only $10, and really love the cell phone. i call my friend every wednesday and friday night, she and i watch tv together while we talk on the phone, from July through April, i could sit right here in my computer room, watching tv, and my service/signal worked great, but in May, i began to notice that the call would sometimes drop, and sometimes it can be hard to hear me on the phone. i first thought it was Virgin Mobile, and that it would be fixed soon, but it has continued. my phone works great outside, but it's not working good here in my computer room.

just recently, in May, we got new comcast digital cable boxes, and i was wondering, could that signal be interfering with my cell phone signal? or could it be that i need a new cell phone/battery? any advice, information about this issue i would greatly appreciate so much. :) Thank you for reading. i hope you are having a peaceful day. :)

Will my unlocked T-Mobile Samsung "Blast" work in Europe?

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 02:59 PM PDT

Samsung Blast SGH - T729

After finally getting Tmobile to give me an unlock code, and successfully entering the code, I called Samsung to request confirmation that the handset was now ready to use in Switzerland. I plan on purchasing a SIM card when I get to Switzerland. they tell me that the phone won't work there as swiss network operates at 950/1900KHz, and blast operates at 900/1800. I told them that the handset is labeled(inside battery compartment) as a "Portable Quadband PHONE", and everything I've read suggests a Quadband phone will work in Europe. The Samsung rep then put me on hold to check with (someone more knowledgeable)... she came back on and said the phone will not work in Switzerland.

Can anyone clarify/help with this.......and/or offer corroborating reference..

and how about a way to recheck that the handset was in fact successfully unlocked

Much thanks,
TF

Is there anything that meets these requirements?

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 09:52 AM PDT

I have a son that is going off to high school next year. Naturally, he will be on his own between school and home from then on.

I'm worried about SAR radiation. The problem is the radiation happens even with texting. He also needs something that is isn't going to break easily from drops or die because of water, because he plays sports.

From what I can tell, Motorola's Defy has rather high radiation (1.5W/kg) so that's out of the question. Motorola's Tundra VA76r has 1.320 W/Kg.

I looked at the Samsung Rugby II as well, it has 0.52-1.1 SAR according to websites. Motorola i686 has 0.59 SAR; the i680 has 0.59 as well. The Sanyo Taho has a SAR of 0.61 and it's a really basic phone, so I don't think he will use it.

Casio G'zOne Ravine has 0.53 W/Kg. The Brigade is rather large, so it probably won't be a good idea.

(reference: The 10 Best Rugged Cell Phones | PCMag.com)

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. If there's no such phone, he'll get an Samsung Captivate or something with low radiation (according to Cell Phone Radiation - CellRisk.com) and we'll try to look for a rugged case and a Bluetooth headset. I'd much rather it be a basic phone with texting so I don't need to pay for data plans though. The benchmark for "low radiation" that I'm using is the Iphone 3G (0.79W.kg). I figure that is the most common one used by people in high school these days.

It's a plus if it doesn't need any special chargers: i.e. it can use a standard micro usb one like my Blackberry.

Cell phone problem

Posted: 01 Jun 2011 07:31 AM PDT

First of all, I'm sorry if this is not in the right area, but I couldn't find a more suitable place. Please move if necessary. :)

Well, I bought this cellphone from the store, and I decided to put in some sounds. I connected my phone to the USB port in my computer, and I mistakenly formatted it into NTFS. Afterwards, I found out that phones only support FAT drives, so I converted it back to FAT and put in extra files.

When I opened my phone, I looked at the "File Manager," tab, and I saw the memory card, as usual. But the phone memory wasn't there!

I tried to send a message, but whenever I went to "Write Message," a message pops up saying, "Invalid file system."

It's as if the phone has turned into a mere storage device. I can't send a message, but I can call though. Can anyone help me with this?

P.S.:
My cellphone brand (my|phone) is exclusive to my country, the Philippines, so I'm afraid any more specs wouldn't help greatly. But, if by luck, someone who is very knowledgeable from my country would stumble by this post, then I would feel so happy.

Cancelling ATT and unlocking to go on any network?

Posted: 31 May 2011 04:31 PM PDT

Im an international student here in the States and currently have an iphone through my girlfriends At&t account.

I want to change to verizon because I live in California and travel frequently to Northern Cal where ATT coverage is pathetic.

I called into verizon, they said that because I dont have a social security number, I would have to pay a $400 deposit and an additional $299 for the iphone 4 32gb. Thats not really an option for me right now

Other possibility is that my girlfriend sets up the account in my name which I dont think is an option either.

Anyway...would I be better off, terminating my AT&T account and unlocking my 3GS 32GB iphone? (I think my termination fee is about $100)

That way could I still keep my number but transfer to someone like sprint? Or some other half-decent network?

Any help appreciated!!
