Deleting Gmail from Samsung Galaxy S5

Posted: 13 Jan 2015 10:52 AM PST

In the phone tutorials on the phone and online, I've seen info on setting up and deleting a gmail account, but nothing on how to select and delete gmail (i.e. delete all) or a portion thereof (i.e. via a shift feature). Also haven't seen any info on thereafter emptying deleted gmail from the trash bin. Any help would be appreciated...thanks.

DVI cable is interfering with cell phone signal

Posted: 03 Feb 2015 10:34 AM PST

A while back I ran into a weird EMI interference issue between my cell phone and a new custom built PC inside of a Cooler Master CM690 KKN2 case. When the PC booted to Windows calls would drop on all cell phones nearby, whether 3G, LTE, on Verizon or AT&T and they could not connect to any mobile networks. (Nobody in my office has T-Mobile, so we don't know if they would have been affected too)

I spent a lot of time googling and couldn't find any solutions. I eventually figured out what was causing it and wanted to post something here in case others are having the same issue. I assumed the high airflow case meant it was poorly shielding EMI from inside the case. It also has a painted interior and I don't think the shell was grounded. I tried swapping out every single component and cable inside and even swapped out the case, but It turns out all that was completely unrelated.

There was some kind of interaction between my PC's DVI cable and the NEC monitor it was connected to, and only at a refresh rate of 59 Hz. When I switched to 60 Hz or if I plugged into a different monitor the problem went away completely.

What I still don't understand is how can a low frequency DVI signal (max clock rate at 165 Mhz) interfere with multiple high frequency cell phone bands (800Mhz to 1700Mhz). I'd love to hear from someone with hardware knowledge of the DVI spec if they have any theories on why this was happening.

Microsoft Office now available for Android

Everyone can now make PowerPoints and Word documents on their Android device.
Following last week's previews of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel for Android tablets, Microsoft has announced that you can now download the full package from the Google Play store.
The technology giant has explained that the apps will be very familiar to users of these core Office products, while being fully optimized for Android devices, with large touch points negating the need for an external keyboard.
The preview apps were downloaded by more than 250,000 people in over 110 countries and all three gained Google Play scores of over 4.2 showing a positive response to the products.
If you're looking to download any of the Office apps, you'll need at least KitKat 4.4, an ARM based processor, 1GB of RAM and a 7-inch screen on your tablet. However, a screen larger than 10.1 inches will require you to subscribe to Office 365. Those of you who only need the most basic functions can download the package for free, while those needing the full set of bells and whistles will need to subscribe to Office 365, which starts from £5.99 per month.
Are you likely to get any of the Office apps for your Android tablet? Are you going to subscribe to the full version? Comment and let us know.

Phone for the blind - need voice dependent dialing

Posted: 02 Feb 2015 01:27 PM PST

Hello - was with Alltel and was forced to switch to AT & T. My dad is blind and he had to give up his LG AX145 phone during the switch. I am having trouble finding a phone that he can use. The LG AX145 was awesome because I programmed it to activate "voice command" upon opening the flip phone. In other words, when my dad opened the phone, all he had to do was say, "Call Kim's cell" and it would call me. I programmed every name in his address book (which isn't many - 14 or so) with his voice saying the command. Worked like a charm. Unfortunately, AT & T can't use the LG AX-145 nor can I find another carrier (prepaid or otherwise) that still uses the AX-145. I need a phone that either has a button I can program to activate voice commands (not follow menus that he can't see), or upon opening the phone it will activate voice commands. Then, I need the phone to understand what he is saying and make the correct call! The LG A380 that I had to choose with AT & T will not call the right person or number for nothing! Any suggestions?

swapping sim cards between 2 carriers - advice?

Posted: 01 Feb 2015 10:35 AM PST

I have an unlocked iphone4 using ATT. I'd like to try Consumer Cellular (pre-paid, no contract service) for a month before I decide to switch or not. They use the ATT network so hopefully they are fully compatible to my phone and similar to my current coverage performance.

BUT, I don't want to cancel my ATT account during this time in case I want to stay with ATT after this trial period. I will not transfer my existing ATT number to Consumer Cell during this time... I'll just use a new cell number with Consumer Cell.

So, my plan would be to pop in the Consumer Cellular sim card for a few days to try them out, then pop in the ATT sim card for a few more days... and do this during the trial month.

At the end of the trial period, if I like the Consumer Cell result, I'll just transfer my ATT cell number to Consumer Cell and kill the ATT account. If I don't like Consumer Cell, I'll end my account with them, and stay with ATT.

Questions:
Does this plan make sense? Can I pop in different carrier's sim cards like this?
Will ATT know I'm doing this?
Any things I should be aware of?

thanks!

Best USB Charging Cable

i have found that not all cables charge the same. I am looking for a usb cord that will charge at least as fast as the original cord that came with my phone. Please suggest.
