smart phone/web host operating systems

Posted: 22 Jun 2011 10:06 AM PDT

I am wondering if I can create a web site on a smart phone using a web host operating system? I believe that the o/s of the smart phone is Android. Does the web host also have to have that same o/s? Do they have to match?

Affordable communications

Posted: 21 Jun 2011 07:29 AM PDT

Much as an automobile costing a consumer $250,000 rather than an "sffordable" $25,000.
What I want is a simple telephone that works as a telephone only and that costs $50 no more than $50, ends of costs.
NOT $50 per month but $0.00 per month, Am I expecting too much ?
Is there any such thing ?
I'll even pay $100 for a phone and a lifetime of "service" without the PITA bills.

Tips to Buy SmartPhones

Posted: 20 Jun 2011 11:34 PM PDT

SmartPhones are a new breed of phones which are changing the way we communicate at an astonishing speed.

A smartphone is a mobile phone that offers more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a contemporary feature phone. Smartphones and feature phones may be thought of as handheld computers integrated with a mobile telephone, but while most feature phones are able to run applications based on platforms such as Java ME, a smartphone allows the user to run and multitask applications that are native to the underlying hardware. Smartphones run complete operating system software providing a platform for application developers. Thus, they combine the functions of a camera phone and a personal digital assistant (PDA), says Wikipedia about smartphones.

If you are also thinking of making a trasition from your old mobile phone to a smartphone, then here is a list of features which are a must for a smartphone to be a real smartphone:

Wi-Fi

No strings attached! This is the mantra today to connect any device to the Internet. Your smartphone should support Wi-Fi connectivity. These days, you will find free or paid Wi-Fi networks in most cafe's, hotel lounges and other social places.

Just switch on WiFi and connect online in seconds.

Battery back up

As you would be doing lot of work like internet surfing, chatting, listening to music, watching videos and last but not the least calling and receiving calls. Also, do not just blindly believe on the battery talk time written on the phone specifications. Most of the time, these are the best case scenarios where the company has just tested the battery back up in a scenario where the phone was just kept in idle mode with no activity.

But would you ever keep your smartphone without using its features? Many a times inferior quality batteries are installed to keep the cost of the mobile low.

So, I would suggest reading the real battery reviews for the smartphone model that you looking for. You would find many forums in which people would have complained or appreciated about the various features of the phone along with battery.

RAM memory

This is an important part of any smartphone. If you do not have sufficient RAM, you wil not be able to run multiple applications. It should at least be 512 MB as per current standards. Of course this will change quickly as RAM gets cheaper with increasing smartphone base.

USB connectivity

This is one of the mandatory feature which should form part of any smartphone. USB is a standard these days to connect to any other electronic device like a laptop or a digital camera. Smartphones generally do not have the USB of the same size as a laptop but they do carry a Micro USB and a converter cable to connect to laptop USB port.

Also, when you connect your smartphone and your laptop with this micro USB to USB connector, the phone's battery starts charging itself too! So, that is another great feature supported in many smartphones today.

3G

Even if you do not plan to use 3G in near future due to high cost of usage currently, you should ask for a 3G enabled device. Keeping the pace of enhancements in mobile technology in mind, the day is not too far when 3G will also be cheap and you would then be able to access high speed inetrnet on the go itself.

Remember, who could imagine that a call would only cost 1/2 paisa (cent) per minute 10 years ago?

GPS

Another important feature that is gaining relevance in Indian market. GPS is a global positioning system which helps you find directions using your latitute and longitude position on earth map. It is highly used feature in GPS, smartphones and cars in US and other developed countries where the population is low and you can't find people to show you the way.

Even though you can find people in the remote areas of India too to ask for directions, this feature is highly useful and reliable. Presented by caller tune maker

A neat desk stand for your Cell phone!

Posted: 20 Jun 2011 05:50 PM PDT

How many times have you wanted your cell phone more visible on your desk instead of laying flat where you can't really see what is going on like incoming messages etc. Or to use as a clock or weather station? Check this out. You can make most phones work on this stand:

Since I can't find anything local made for my Dell Streak 5, here is a tilt-stand I found at the Barnes & Noble book store.
Perfect size for it with the gap for the cable/cord at the bottom.
It is a stand for small paperback books. $13 Barnes & Noble.

Here is the info on getting yours:

Barnes & Noble sells our silver-black Bookhug™ in stores and online (look for a blue-silver box in stores).
We sell both our silver-black Bookhug , and our violet-plum Bookhug online at: http://www.bookhug.com , accepting payment by PayPal.
We're getting good feedback from customers who really like our Bookhug to hold their KINDLES and other eReaders, notebook computers, and more--even framed pictures. Some people put a small piece of craft foam to the inside of Bookhug's tabs to protect their 'electronics' (double-sided tape would hold the foam in place).
Cell phone stand

I have a violet-plum Bookhug coming and will post pictures of that when I get it.

The latest twist! HTC will remove selected Apps from the Desire to run Gingerbread

Posted: 18 Jun 2011 09:09 PM PDT

Another day, another twist to the ongoing <b><a href="http://www.techding.com/2011/04/htc-desire-s-review.html">HTC Desire</a></b>/<b><a href="http://www.techding.com/2011/05/install-miui-gingerbread-custom-rom-on.html">Gingerbread</a></b>/will they won't they saga.<br>
Todays twist is that they will "cut select apps from the release" of Gingerbread for the Desire.<br>
I hope that is it, only thing now is when is it actually coming? That point seems to have been forgotten, after all, the Desire <i>should</i> have had Gingerbread long ago!<br>
The latest screengrab from HTC's facebook page:<br>

Pantech Link issues

Posted: 18 Jun 2011 08:08 PM PDT

I got the Pantech Link in January, so far its been a really great phone. there are a few things i want to ask about though

-a few months after I got the phone, the 3G symbol went away and now i only have the E (for edge). why did the 3G go, how do I get it back?

-the Pantech PC Suite for my Link says the Link isnt connected when I have it hooked up via USB to my laptop. I have a Bluetooth option and plan on getting a dongle for my laptop soon, but does anyone know how to get it to connect (there have been a lot of people saying they have this issue)?

-im trying to get my phone to install an Intent_MIDlet_Manager_11.1.7.1036 to play java games. I get this .cab file onto the phone, but the Link doesnt recognize it. how can i get it to work, or is there another way to play java games on the phone (from what ive read the Link can support them)?

-i just got a set of bluetooth headphones, and the first time i used them to listen to music on the Link it was fine. Now when i listen to tracks there are 2-5 little skips in about every song. I called the headphone's customer service and they said to test it on other devices that recognize the headphones the same way the Link does. so I tried it with my PSP Go, which only plays .mp3 right now. 4-5 songs played and had no skips, so I played 4-5 mp3 songs on the Link and there were no skips as well (the majority of the songs no the Link are wma, so i dont think any mp3s were played before the test). is this a mp3/wma thing, because the Link is a $100 phone and shouldnt be having any problems when the headphones were only $25.

anyone who has answers please let me know, thanks

iPhone 4s Rumor!!!!

Posted: 15 Jun 2011 11:21 PM PDT

Apple will Release iPhone 4S at WWDC

Bluelans official blog, recently, there were rumors that Apple will release iPhone 4 upgrade version—iPhone 4S at WWDC held in San Francisco on June 6th-10th, nevertheless, the long rumored iPhone 5 will not appear temporarily.

The news pointed, compared with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S will only got little appearance change, and better camera, upgrade to A5 dual core processor and also support HSPA+ network. These hardware upgrade are similar with the previous prediction on iPhone 5.

From professional iPhone accessories wholesale bluelans.com point of view, due to Apple had successful experience from iPhone 3G upgrading to iPhone 3GS, therefore, the predictions to iPhone 4S seems reasonable. If there really had iPhone 4S, what operating system iPhone 4S would employ? It directly adopts iOS5.0 or still use iOS 4.X OS?

However, Apple once expressed it will focus on iOS and Mac OS X software on WWDC 2011 to refute a rumor. So, is there iPhone 4S, iPhone 5? Rumor is only rumor. Only Apple knows.
