moving sim to unlocked phone

Posted: 28 Mar 2013 03:31 PM PDT

I am a novice so please excuse my lack of information. I have an LG cellphone (don't know model #) there is a sticker on it saying qualcomm 3g cdma. I have a sprint plan I don't want to give up which is voice only. I am going to Asia soon and I have been looking at dual sim and quad phones that are unlocked
My question is can I move the sim from my LG to another phone and retain the same plan?
I would appreciate any other suggestions or information.

End of the jailbreak: iOS 6.1.3 released for iPhone, iPad and iPod

Apple has just released an update for all supported nor iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new version of iOS 6.1.3 fixes the official security vulnerability that could with some skill the call log can be read along with phone book despite passcode lock. Unofficially, even with the jailbreak (for now) final.
The fix that was supposed to be iOS 6.1.1, but due more serious problems such as the Exchange bug and problems with reception and the battery life of the iPhone 4S, has been renamed twice, is now to be had for all. According to official information, only minor things are fixed: So it is mentioned that the vulnerability has been fixed in spite code lock the phone book and call log are read. Furthermore, improvements to the Maps app for Japan were made.
Not in the list, is that Jailbreaker if they want to remain relevant, must abandon its Aufsperrung via evasi0n. Unusually long Apple has not opened any underlying vulnerability ungestopft - the jailbreak was released shortly after the release of iOS 6.1.0 and has since survived up to and including 6.1.2. Already in the beta version have noticed the developers of evasi0n that used vulnerabilities no longer work.

Jailbreaker will not be able to avoid this method, they want to stay up to date, because the over-the-air update has been disabled at an early evasi0n issue: who would rather keep the jailbreak should, first of all make an update. On an iPhone 4S, the build number is 10B329.

Learn Phone Repair

Posted: 14 Mar 2013 02:07 AM PDT

Hi,

I'm a telecom network engineer and I thought I'd put all the electronics stuff I learned at uni to use by learning to repair cell phone handsets.

Just wondering, how do I go about this? Is there a recommended course?

Also, is it worth my time? I'm not sure how many jobs there are out there for repairing phones, most of the time contract phones are sent back to the manufacturer if they are broken. Probably then recycled.

Thanks,
Andy

How-to: Conserve the Battery Life of Your Sprint Force

Posted: 13 Mar 2013 01:05 PM PDT

Is your smartphone experiencing a low-batter life? Then disabling some of its feature should help you get through the day more easily. This tutorial will teach you how to disable some of the most battery-life consuming features of your device.

Reducing the Backlight Brightness and Backlight Timeout

1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
2. Then select System settings -> tap Display -> select Brightness -> you can now touch to check or uncheck Automatic brightness. In case you decided to uncheck Automatic brightness, then drag the slider to the lowest most comfortable level.
3. When done, tap OK.
4. Then touch Sleep -> select the lowest most comfortable timeout setting available. For example, 30 seconds, or 15 seconds.
5. When you've done making the necessary changes, tap the Home key.

Changing to a Static Wallpaper

The battery life is significantly decreased when you're using a live wallpaper, so it's recommended that you keep a regular wallpaper instead.

1. Go to the Home screen and tap the Menu key.
2. Then select Wallpaper -> select the desired Wallpaper option, except Live Wallpapers.
3. Select the wallpaper that you'd like to use and tap Set wallpaper.

Disabling Wi-Fi, Sprint Hotspot and Bluetooth

The Wi-Fi, Sprint Hotspot and Bluetooth should be disabled whenever you're not actively using these settings. However, keep your Wi-Fi turned on whenever there's a nearby active Wi-Fi network that you can use, as in this situation, the battery will be improved. Smartphones usually need more battery-life when on the carrier's network.

1. From the Home screen tap the Menu icon.
2. Select System settings -> then tap the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth sliders to OFF, if you're not currently using one of these settings.
3. If the Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot setting is active, tap More -> select Tethering & portable hotspot -> uncheck Portable Wi-Fi hotspot if the feature is enabled.

Disabling GPS

Leaving GPS turned on at all times will drain the battery life faster, so it's best to turn it off when you're not using it.

1. From the Home screen tap the Menu icon.
2. Select System settings -> Location services -> and uncheck Use GPS satellites.
3. When finished, tap the Back key.

Stopping Unused Running Apps

Sometimes there are some apps that are some unused apps running in the background. This will, of course, drain your batter life so it's best to stop them.

1. From the Home screen tap the Menu icon.
2. Select System settings -> touch Apps -> tap the RUNNING tab -> select the app or service that you'd like to stop -> then tap Stop and OK to confirm your choice.
3. Tap the Back key when done.
Note: Some apps don't have the Stop option, this means that that certain app or service cannot be stopped.

Turning off Vibrate Notifications

If you really want to do everything possible to conserve the battery life, turning the vibrate notifications off is another options.

1. From the Home screen tap the Menu icon.
2. Select System settings -> tap Sound -> then tap to uncheck Vibrate and ring.

Downloading and Syncing Information Less Often

1. From the Home screen tap the Menu icon.
2. Select System settings -> tap Accounts & sync.
3. Select the desired account. Or, to disable all account syncing you can switch the Accounts & sync slider to OFF.
4. Then make the desired syncing settings.
5. When finished, tap the Home key.

Charging the Battery

If you charge your battery on a regular basis, its life will be maximized. You can also download some life-saving battery apps that you help you conserve the batter of your phone.

Easy Spy Problems

Posted: 12 Mar 2013 06:18 PM PDT

Ok, so I purchased the Easy Spy and have now emailed them at least 8 times with issues. First of all, their advertisment says 24/7 live support...not so much. Yeah, the number is good but if just directs you to email them for support. There is no clear direction on how to download the software on the computer for remote access. Then, I had to purchase a bluetooth adapter to give me a better chance at picking up the Ipone (target) which was in the same house as me by the way. So... it FINALLY connected BUT there is no direction on how to have the info sent to your email as the advertisement states, no instruction on how to do the video, background scan, ANYTHING... it just shows a connection and nothing else. No texts, no email, no nothing~~ So frustrated with this back and forth and now they keep directing me to general troubleshooting which doesn't tell me anything about my situation. So I'm wondering, once the bluetooth scanner is up and running... how do I retreive the information. By the way, as soon as the phone is out the door... it's out of range... I see a refund in my near future!

How-to: Perform a Master/Hard Reset on the Sprint Force

Posted: 08 Mar 2013 05:38 AM PST

By performing a master reset (also known as a hard or factory reset), all you data saved on the phone will be deleted, 3rd party applications included. Thus you should perform a master reset only when there's no other way to fix a certain issue you're having with your Sprint Force and it's strongly recommended that you back-up your most important data before you perform the master reset. Use a Google account to sync your contacts, for example, and transfer other important data to your microSD card.

Performing a Master Reset

1. Go to the home screen and tap the Menu key.
2. Then select System settings -> scroll to and touch Backup & reset.
3. You can first tap Back up my data, in case you haven't already.
4. Then tap Factory data reset.
5. Read the warning and if you agree with it, tap Reset phone.
6. If you want to delete the files saved on the microSD card, tap Erase SD card. Remember that once you delete the files from your phone, you'll not be able to recover them.
7. Read the second warning and touch Erase everything.
8. Your Sprint Force will restart and reset.

Performing a Master Reset via Hardware

If your Sprint Force is so unresponsive that you are not able to perform a master reset via software, you can still reset it using its buttons. Keep in mind that the outcome will be the same and as a result your files will be deleted.

1. If you can't even turn your smartphone off using its power off key, then remove its battery and then reinsert it.
2. With the device turned off, press and hold the Volume Down button.
3. Then, while still holding the Volume Down button pressed down, press and hold the Power button. Keep both keys pressed until you see the Android system recovery screen, then release your fingers.
4. Using the Volume Down key, scroll and select wipe data/factory reset.
5. While the wipe data/factory reset option is highlighted, press the Power key.
6. Then use the Volume Down key to scroll to Yes –delete all user data and then press the Power button.
7. When the wipe is complete, scroll to reboot system now and press the Power key to select that setting.
8. Your Sprint Force will then restart and will be ready to use once again.
