A java-enabled candybar

Posted: 30 Mar 2014 07:52 PM PDT

Hello everyone. As you'd expect, I want to get a candybar capable of supporting java apps. I have a Samsung GT-C3200 which kinda runs some java apps I've found. It crashes most of the times while installing, and I'm tired of it.
I talked with a friend who suggested the lack of RAM of that thing may be what causes said crashes.
And here I am to ask all of you. That phone should preferably have a 2.0+ MP camera. It's fine if it doesn't. I want to run NES and GBC emulators on it. It of course needs buttons for playing comfortably.
Thanks! :)

Unlock: A couple of things you need to knw when You make an order, for an unlock code

Posted: 28 Mar 2014 05:52 AM PDT

There are many companies that offer unlock codes for your smartphone such as this one: sim-unlock-net .

many people don't feel secured enough to make a payment for an unlock code, because they feel they will get robbed or that the code doesn't work.

Here are a couple of tips to make you feel more secured.

1. First of all please make sure, that you read the site rules. It is very importnat to know whta can you expect and what are you paying for.

2. The second thing you can do is to contact the company by e-mail, or call them and ask first about your order. Every good company has call center that

you can conntact to answer all of your questions. If there is no way to contact the company, it might not be the best choice for you.

3. The third thing is to get to know if the company refunds money if you are not satisfied with their service, like for example sim-unlock-net gives a full

refund if they cannot unlock your phone.

4. You won't get a refund just because you want to. All companies need a way to secure their biznes, that is why most of them ask to record a short video

that shows that the codes don't work, or that your phone doesn't ask for an unlock code, or someother problems.

5, Ask for help if you need any assistance with the unlocking process. Don't try entering the codes as much as possible, because you might block your

code counter, and the phone will still be locked.

6. If your code doesn't work, don't immediately scream that you will call the police, or sue the company. Please ask for an assistance and help for your

problem.

7. Please also remeber to read all the important information that is stated on the website.

- sometimes before making an order the client is ask to check the code counter, or give some additional information for the unlock code like an ID

provider in alcatel phone.

- also from time to time, there are technical problems, that don't allow your code to arrive at the exact time, or send you an incorrect.

(Remeber it is only a machine).

8. Final and very importnat tip for you is to remember that in unlocking companies, there are people working. They have feelings so don't curse them out,

of make threats, it won't help your case, but might resolve in a police intervention.

We hope that you will find this tips most usefull and that you will make better decisions in choosing the correct company for your business.

Some seem incredibly cheap, but I would be happy to pay top dollar if I knew I was actually getting value for it.
Is there any real difference between them?

How-to: Transfer Contacts from an iPhone to the Oppo R819

Posted: 24 Mar 2014 04:19 AM PDT

Transferring Contacts Through iTunes:

Those of you who have iTunes installed on your computer can easily transfer your iPhone contacts to your Android device, by syncing them with your Google account. Synced contacts include the contact image, number, name and any other additional details.

  1. Open iTunes on your computer
  2. Connect the iPhone to your computer using the proprietary USB cable
  3. Once connected, your iPhone will pop-up in iTunes. Click it to view the summary page
  4. Access the "Info" tab and mark the "Sync Contacts With" check box
  5. From the drop-down menu, select "Google Contacts"
  6. Register your Google account if you haven't done so before. Alternatively, click "Configure" and select an existing account
  7. To start the syncing process, click "Apply"
  8. On the Oppo R819, register the same account if necessary. To do so, go to "Settings" > "Accounts"
  9. Allow Google to sync contacts with your Android handset and you're done

Using iCloud to Transfer Contacts:

The iCloud backup service offers the possibility to export backed up contacts in the form of a vCard file. In case you've used the service before, then your contacts should already be backed up on your iCloud account. For this method, you need a computer with access to the Internet.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on your computer, and visit https://www.icloud.com/
  2. Sign in with your iCloud account
  3. Click "Contacts" and select the desired contacts from the list
  4. Once ready, click the cog wheel icon located at the lower-left side of the screen
  5. Select "Export vCard" and wait for the VCF file to be downloaded on your computer
  6. Import the vCard file to "Google Contacts". Alternatively, you can connect the Oppo R819 to your PC via USB, and transfer the VCF file to the "sdcard" directory. Then, import the contacts through the contacts application, by using the "Import / Export" function

Using "My Contacts Backup":

In case you intend on transferring your contacts without accessing a computer, then you can use various applications such as "My Contacts Backup" to get the job done. MCB is an iOS application that can compile your iPhone's contacts into one VCF file, which can then be sent to your Oppo R819 via email.

  1. Download "My Contacts Backup" on your iPhone, from the App Store
  2. Open the application and tap "Backup"
  3. After the backup file is created, tap "Email" in order to attach the file to an email
  4. Enter your own Gmail address as the email's recipient, and send it
  5. Pick up the Oppo R819 and open the email
  6. Download the vCard file on your phone's memory, and import its contents through the contacts app and the "Import" function

Using "Send Anywhere":

If you don't want to send your contacts via email, then you might want to give "Send Anywhere" a try. This iOS and Android app can transfer contacts and other file types from one phone to the other using a peer-2-peer connection.

  1. Download "Send Anywhere" on your iPhone, from the App Store
  2. Visit the Play Store on the Oppo, and install the same application
  3. Open the app on both handsets
  4. On the sender device (which is the iPhone in this case), tap "Send"
  5. Select "Contacts" and mark the contacts that you wish to share
  6. Tap "Send" when ready, and select the desired method of transfer. By tapping "Generate QR Code", you can generate a code that can be scanned with the Oppo R819's camera. Alternatively, you can use other methods of transfer, or you can tap "Receive" on the Oppo smartphone, and type in the transfer code that has been randomly generated on the iPhone

Alcatel One Touch Evolve - how to disable roaming

Posted: 22 Mar 2014 08:58 AM PDT

Plan on travelling overseas with the phone only to use the Wifi feature and to text.

How can I disable roaming so that it doesn't connect to other networks because I will be charged for roaming. Or, should I remove the phone's Sim card?

How can I use texting when I'm in a different country? I think I'd have to connect to a roaming network and then text.

Thanks.

Strange occurance

Posted: 20 Mar 2014 06:36 AM PDT

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy SIII with ATT.

As I was sitting watching TV I heard someone saying Hello? Hello? Hello? several times. Finally I got up thinking it was on the computer but it turned out to be the phone which was lit up and in the speaker phone mode. And the voice which had a heavy accent maybe India was a live person still saying hello. So I said hello and they responded asking for some name. I said 'I can't understand what you are saying'. And they said 'Oh okay' and disconnected.

I had not made any calls that day so how without me answering it did a connection open with a caller and in speaker phone mode?

Does anybody have any theories? Does this happen to other people often?

The Future of the Internet Is Smaller, Cheaper & Connected

Posted: 17 Mar 2014 01:16 PM PDT

It's interesting to track trends in technology by analyzing the latest in industry buzz-phrases. After the World Wide Web was firmly established as a business tool, industry consultants started spinning out terms like "intranet" which later morphed into "web services" and lately to "cloud services", terms that encompassed a range of services than run on commodity web servers. To justify those outrageous consulting fees, one must constantly come up with new jargon to make your customers feel out of touch.

The latest buzz-phrase does, for once, accurately capture the nature of significant, organic changes coming to our computing lives. The future of the Internet is here and it's smaller, cheaper, and more connected than ever before, encapsulated by the buzz-phrase "Internet of Things" — or IoT for short. It would be more accurate to call it the internetting of things, but that's more work for consultants to type, and you can't bill for all those extra letters.

An Explosion of Connectivity

According to Intel, the number of connected devices is roughly equal to the population of earth. By next year, 2015, the number of connected devices will be more than double the population of the planet. An Internet connection is coming to a house and appliance near you. It's hard to find a TV anymore that's not connected, and Wi-Fi connections are turning up in refrigerators, washer/dryers, exercise equipment, and most of the major systems in your home and car.

Some of those connections will help you by giving you remote control of devices like lights, thermostats, and door locks; others will be there for the benefit of the manufacturer. My parents' refrigerator phones home to the manufacturer when the filters need changing; new filters appear, as if by magic, in the mail. The Internet of Things will mean there will be a host of new devices clamoring for your attention, but will also bring a new level of convenience and peace of mind, knowing the smoke alarm will text you if it senses a problem.

Smaller, Cheaper Computers

The cost of computers is continuing to drop, and devices like tablets and netbooks are available for under $300. Serious power users might select a new computer like Lenovo's Yoga 2, which retails for around $1,000. For most people, laptops like the HP ProBook at $626 will be more power than they need. Thousands of consumers have discovered that adding a wireless keyboard to their tablet let's them handle 95% of tasks they ever need to do on a computer.

Desktops have all but disappeared from the market, as the market for towers has shrunk to a handful of specialty applications (and hobbyists who still enjoy building big box computers). That's bad news for companies like Microsoft, which has struggled with the transition to connected devices. Microsoft cheered when Windows Phone captured roughly the same market share as Blackberry, so there's no fear Redmond is setting the bar too high for themselves. Microsoft even tried giving Windows Phone away in India, a tacit admission the mobile OS is pork chop ugly.

When it comes to computer operating systems, Microsoft finally got Windows 8.1 into shape; it's quite a nice OS that comes out at a time when computer operating systems are little more than a vehicle for apps. Both Android and iOS are capable competitors in that regard, and the transition puts Redmond into direct competition with Google and Apple. Historically speaking, competition has not been one of Microsoft's core strengths, and they have been slow to adapt their flagship Office product to tablets and mobile devices. The harsh reality may be that the world simply doesn't need three operating systems.

Adapting To The Cheap

The trend to lower-cost connected devices will be mostly good for consumers, though the transition will open up a brave new world for hackers. In the end, expect convenience to brush aside security concerns, because it's just so cool to have your garage door open automatically when it detects your car coming up the driveway, and to have the lights and appliances spring to attention because you're home. The brave new world of connected devices will mean more granular control of your personal space, and it's hard to see that as a bad thing — at least until some 9-year-old kid in China starts flipping your living room lights on and off.

Flip Phone with custom ringtones?

Posted: 16 Mar 2014 07:32 AM PDT

I have an LG flip phone from like 10 years ago with MP3 ringtones on it (via Bitpim), but Bitpim hasn't been updated forever. I haven't found any options for current flip phones. I need a new phone, and I'm going to be pissed if I can't do something as simple as keep my custom ringtone. I have Verizon wireless. Only options seem to be Samsung and LG, but i'm not seeing anything promising on any model.
