Can old dual band phones be used for anything today?

Hey folks Happy New Year,

I've got an old Qualcomm dual band cell. that I've been holding onto for at least 10 years.

Always felt like it could be used for something really cool (other than a prop..lol)

Anyone using dual band phones in creative ways?

Help with first smartphone purchase

Hi Everyone-

I am looking to make my very first smartphone purchase but the search has my head spinning round and round.:) I already have a desktop at home but am looking for something I can use to check on emails and messages while away like Dr and hospital appointments, movies, shopping ,etc. Would like something with a physical qwerty keyboard since that's what I am already used to. Also the other features like camera, gps, 4g, web browsing would be welcome.

Have been browsing through ebay comparing features and prices and still can't seem to make up my mind although it mostly comes down to Samsung or HTC. Have heard some bad things about Samsung so I am leaning towards HTC.

Just wondering if anyone has any kind of advice which might be helpful in reaching my decision.
