How-to: Kyocera Hydro XTRM: Wipe the Cache Partition, Master Reset and Enter Safe Mode

Wiping the Cache Partition:

In case your smartphone is not working correctly and you're considering master resetting it, then you might want to wipe its cache partition first. By doing so, you might fix the issues, without losing any data. To wipe the Hydro XTRM's cache:

  1. Turn off the smartphone
  2. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Volume Down" and "Power" button at the same time
  3. Keep holding the buttons for roughly 10 seconds
  4. After several seconds, an image of an Android lying on its back should appear
  5. Press "Volume Down" twice until "Recovery mode" appears
  6. With "Recovery mode" highlighted, press the "Power" button. An image with a red triangle and an Android should display
  7. Press and hold the "Power" button, and then tap the "Volume Up" key
  8. When the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release all the buttons
  9. Press the volume buttons in order to highlight "wipe data cache partition"
  10. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option
  11. Your smartphone will wipe the cache and restart in normal mode

Master Resetting via the Settings Menu:

WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will result in loss of data stored on your phone's internal storage. Content such as downloaded items, ringtones, apps, contacts and images will be lost. Note that, data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.

  1. If necessary, backup your data
  2. While on the home screen, press the "All apps" icon
  3. Tap "Settings"
  4. Under "Personal", tap "Backup & reset"
  5. Tap "Factory data reset"
  6. Assuming that your device is password protected, you will need to enter your password, PIN or pattern
  7. Tap "Erase everything"

Master Resetting Using Hardware Buttons:

WARNING! Master resetting your device will result in loss of personal data stored on your phone's memory, including images, apps, custom ringtones, downloaded content etc. The content stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be deleted.

  1. If necessary, back up your personal data
  2. Turn off the smartphone
  3. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Volume Down" and "Power" button for 10 seconds or so. An Android lying on its back will pop-up on the screen after a while
  4. Press the "Volume Down" button twice until the "Recovery mode" option appears
  5. Press the "Power" button to reboot your device in recovery mode. An image with a red triangle should appear
  6. Tap "Volume up" while holding the "Power" button
  7. When the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release the buttons
  8. Use the volume rocker to navigate to "wipe data / factory reset"
  9. Press the "Power" button to select the option
  10. Navigate to "Yes – erase all user data" and press "Power"
  11. Finally, highlight "reboot system now" and once again, confirm the selection by pressing "Power"
  12. Your smartphone will factory reset and reboot in normal mode

Enabling Safe Mode:

Safe mode can be used in order to uninstall third party applications that may cause issues with your device, and would not allow you to uninstall them using normal means. To enter safe mode:

  1. Press the "Power" button
  2. Tap and hold the "Power off" option from the pop-up menu
  3. Tap "OK" when prompted to start safe mode
  4. Your device will now reboot in safe mode
  5. Go to "Settings" > "Apps" and uninstall the application that causes problems
  6. To exit safe mode, press and hold the "Power" button
  7. Tap "Power off"
  8. Lastly, press and hold the "Power" key and restart your device as you normally would

Transferring Audio Files from a Computer:

  1. Use the USB cable that came with your smartphone to connect it to your computer
  2. Tap "Media sync (MTP)" when prompted
  3. From the "AutoPlay" window that should pop-up on your PC, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
  4. Open a different Windows Explorer window, and navigate to where the audio files are located on your computer
  5. Copy the desired files
  6. Paste the files on your phone's storage. NOTE: you can paste the audio files in the "Notification" or "Ringtones" folder
  7. Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray
  8. Click "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" > "OK"
  9. You can now disconnect your smartphone from your PC

Changing the Ringtone for All Calls:

  1. Press the "All apps" icon located on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Sound"
  3. Swipe to "Ringtone & Notifications", and tap "Phone ringtone"
  4. Select the ringtone that you wish to use for all calls. NOTE: the audio files transferred in the "Ringtones" folder will be found under "My Ringtones"

Changing the Ringtone for One Specific Contact:

  1. Tap the "People" icon located on the home screen
  2. Select the contact that you wish to change the ringtone to
  3. Tap "Edit"
  4. Touch the "Ringtone" drop-down menu and select the ringtone that you wish to use for the contact
  5. Tap "OK" > "Save"

Changing the Notification Sound:

  1. While viewing any of the home screen, tap the "All apps" icon
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Sound"
  3. Swipe to "System" and tap "Notification sound"
  4. Choose the audio file that you wish to use as the notification sound. NOTE: audio files transferred in the "Notification" folder will show up under "My Notifications"
  5. If the box is grayed out, you'll need to change the "Sound Profile" form "Silent" to "Sound"

How-to: Transfer Contacts from an iPhone to the Kyocera Hydro XTRM

Using iTunes to Transfer Contacts:

As long as you have iTunes installed on a computer, you can use the software in order to sync your iPhone contacts with your Google account. Then, you can transfer the contacts over to your Hydro XTRM. All the synced contacts come with additional information, the contact image, email etc.

  1. Open iTunes on your desktop computer
  2. Use the proprietary USB cable to connect your iPhone to your PC
  3. Once connected, the iPhone will appear in iTunes. Click on it and you'll get to the summary page
  4. Go to the "Info" tab
  5. Mark the check box next to "Sync Contacts With" and choose "Google Contacts" from the drop-down list
  6. Enter your Google account log in details, assuming that you haven't added a Google account before. Otherwise, you can click "Configure" and select an existing account
  7. Click "Apply" and iTunes will start syncing your iPhone contacts with your Google account
  8. On your Hydro XTRM, register the same account and allow it to sync the contacts with your smartphone. NOTE: if you need to add the account, go to "Settings" > "Accounts"

Using iCloud to Transfer Contacts:

In case you've made use of the iCloud service on your iPhone before, then your contacts should have already been backed up on your iCloud account. By accessing the service, you can export these contacts to your Android device in the form of a VCF file.

  1. On your computer, open the Internet browser and visit https://www.icloud.com/
  2. Click "Contacts"
  3. From the list of contacts, choose the ones that you wish to export
  4. Click the icon depicting a cog wheel, located in the bottom-left corner
  5. Select "Export vCard" and your computer will start downloading a VCF file
  6. Once downloaded, you can perform one of the following:
    • Import the VCF file to "Google Contacts"
    • Connect your Kyocera Hydro XTRM to your computer via USB. Copy the vCard file to the "sdcard" directory and then open the "People" app, tap "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "Import from SD card". Then, select where you want to import the contacts, select the desired contacts (or tap "Select all"), tap "Import" > "Yes"

Using the "My Contacts Backup" Application to Transfer Contacts:

My Contacts Backup is an iOS application that gives you the option to transfer contacts from your iPhone to an Android device via email. To use this method, you don't need access to a computer.

  1. Visit the App Store and download "My Contacts Backup" on your iPhone
  2. Once installed, launch the app and press "Backup". This will create a VCF file containing your iPhone contacts
  3. After the backup is complete, tap "Email" and the VCF file will be attached to it
  4. Enter your Gmail address as the email's recipient
  5. Send the email
  6. Switch over to the Hydro XTRM and open the email. Then, download the VCF file and import the contacts to your device using the "People" app

Using the "Bump" Application to Transfer iPhone Contacts:

Bump is an iOS and Android application that can transfer contacts through the cloud. There's no need for a computer for this approach, but you do need an active Internet connection on both smartphones

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone and install "Bump"
  2. On your Android device, go to the Google Play Store and download the same application
  3. Open the application on both devices, and allow permissions when prompted
  4. Pick up the iPhone and swipe to the contacts section
  5. From the list of contacts, choose the ones that you want to share
  6. After the "Bump now!" label appears in the top-right corner, you can lightly bump the two smartphones together
  7. If done right, a "Connect" button will pop-up on both smartphones' screens. Tap it
  8. Your iPhone contacts should now be transferred over to the Hydro XTRM via cloud

the phone is a touch screen i dont know were the call buttom
n is located at help plz
