| News: Aircell Smartphone by Aircell has introduced its "first airborne smartphone" Posted: 24 Mar 2011 04:23 AM PDT A new smartphone has been announced by Aircell and is named: Aircell Smartphone. For those not familiar with Aircell, they are the only company in the US that has been approved by not only the FCC but the FAA, to use 800MHz band frequencies for inflight communications. The Aircell Smartphone will run on Android, in which the version has not been announced, and will "allow passengers to place and receive voice calls aboard business aircraft." As you can see, this Aircell Smartphone is geared to those in aircrafts. Some of the features of the Aircell Smartphone will include: a 3.8 inch touchhscreen display (of unknown resolution), Bluetooth, integrated audio jack, and an alphanumeric keypad: The Aircell Smartphone is expected to launch sometime later this year and will come with Aircell's Gogo Biz service, upgradable to feature voice by the time of launch. It's probably safe to say that US flights will be the first and only ones to get this phone for awhile. | Terrivel acidente, novo celular! Posted: 23 Mar 2011 03:09 PM PDT Desculpem estar em Inglês, mas já tinha o texto escrito e é bem grande! Obrigado Hey guys! My cell phone got crushed by a car... It was my Sony Ericsson W715 . So now I need a new phone and since we are upon the smartphone era I could really use some help. If you guys don’t mind I would ask for your advices for my next acquisition I will try to make it short and point out what I want on a phone: - To begin with, two very important things are the Camera and the MP3 player. From my experience a phone can easily replace my needs for an MP3 player and a digital camera. I had a SE K750i and for its time it had a great camera and a good music player too. When I got the SE W715 I just realized how a 3.2MP camera can be way crappier than an old 2MP. The autofocus and macro are essential. The W715 camera is a joke, so please no more like that On the other hand the walkman player was really nice with good interface, 4Gb and amazing sound quality. - I haven’t decided if I want a regular, smart and/or touch screen phone. Never had one but I think I would really dig a touch screen, but I have some concerns: Are touchscreens in general more fragile (breakable)? Is there a risk of the screen to stop responding to touch (I’ve heard this could happen…) ? I keep reading about Android versions and stuff but I guess I’m really outdated in this matter. Help…? Anyway all 3 are good options I guess. - I love a fast phone. I hate delays in menu surfing and key pressing. I heard a friend complaining about how slow his phone was… I just want something to operate quickly. - Phones tend to get bigger and I always carry them in the pants pocket, so the size can be somehow important. - Good long duration battery (I got used to lots of hours with SE). - Phone style: It has to be either a touchscreen or a compact-style if it has a keypad (no slide- clam- revolve- like phones) - The price range… My dilemma is whether I should buy a cheaper one with the “minimum requirements” or invest in something better for the future. Right now I’m thinking about 200 (make it from 100 to 300). Thank you in advance guys! Cheers!! |
| Smart phones: Newbie in need of advise Posted: 23 Mar 2011 02:04 PM PDT Hi everyone, first time poster here. My contract is up and I'm due for an upgrade and just not sure what the heck to get. I'm not really a gadget guy to begin with so I'm a little in over my head and could use some help. I'm on AT&T and plan to stay with them because the majority of the people I talk to are AT&T so most of my talking time is under free mobile to mobile etc and I have racked up a TON of rollover minutes which also works out nicely. Currently I'm on a super old data plan that does not work with smart phones and was a media bundle with 1000 texts and 5MB data for $15 (I barely use the interenet on my phone). I have decided to change my plan and split the text and data with 1000 text for $10 and 2GB Data for $25 so I can get a smart phone. So heres where my questions come in.... Is a 4G capable phone really going to be better for me than a 3G phone? I was thinking of going 4G since that looks to be where everything is headed and since I'll be locked in for 2 years etc. But AT&T only has 2 4G phones out right now, the HTC Inspire and Motorola Atrix and one about to come out 2nd Qtr the Samsung Infuse. Between the two that are available now both seem to have some issues. The HTC Inspire 4G battery life is pretty bad according to the reviews I've watched and the speaker phone isn't very good either. I use the speaker phone most of the time when I'm on the phone so thats an issue for me and if I have to charge the phone 1 or more times a day thats going to get annoying fast. The Motorola Atrix 4G looks really nice but I've heard the UI is MotoBlur and it has lag issues according to reviews I've watched. Then there's the Samsung Infuse 4G which isn't out yet and will be out in the next few months. It looks promising but without seeing actual reviews I don't know. A 3G phone would probably open up alot of other options but I'm just not sure if I should lock myself in for 2 years to a phone thats old technology already. Most of my use with the phone will be talk, text, checking and sending email and some light internet browsing. I'm not on facebook all the time I don't have (or want) Twitter so none of that stuff and I don't intend to download music to the phone because I have an ipod for that. Probably wont be downloading a bunch of apps either. I'd like the ability to do all of that, I just probably wont't use it all that much if that makes sense. So, what would you guys recomend for me? |
