| Which directory and maps service are cell phone carriers using to find places using your cell phone? Posted: 06 Nov 2011 12:01 PM PST I've noticed on T-Mobile, Verizon, etc... cell phones I can search to find businesses and locations using their map service. I'm sure that cell phone carriers providing this as a service are not compiling all this data themselves but rather subscribing to or freely accessing it from somewhere. While you can load up apps to use Google maps/places and other like services on cell phones that have an operating system that allow you to (iPhone, Google android, etc...); the question I have is does anyone know where the cell phone providers are accessing this data from to provide to us? |

| Any very light, durable smart phones with a physical keyboard? Posted: 05 Nov 2011 07:50 PM PDT I'm looking to get my first smartphone, and I definitlely want one with a physical keyboard and that is light weight (HTC phones seem really heavy). I also want the phone to be durable / have good build quality. I think I would mostly be using the phone for texting and web browsing... and maybe GPS. I was just about to pick up an unused Palm Pre Plus for really cheap.. with a touchstone charger, because it seems to be the lightest of the keyboard phones from what I've read. The OS seems really slick and intuitive too. It seemed like the perfect option for the longest time... but now I'm reading about some quality issues with the phone. Dropped calls/missed texts, sharp edges on the phone, lack of scrolling buttons/wheel (??), very poor battery life, running hot, some cases of the screen shattering. If I could get something like this phone but with much better build quality, that would be great. I am happy to be a year/generation behind in my phone model if I could get what I'm looking for, and at such a good price. Any suggestions?? |
