| No texting plan. Use Google Voice (or other alternative)? Posted: 30 Nov 2011 02:55 AM PST Just a general question. I just got a new phone over the weekend. New phone, new service provider, new number. This is a smartphone (Droid Razr if it matters) and although I do have the data plan, I do not have texting. I don't text a lot (well, not "a lot" compared to most others). Here's my dilemma. 1) Use a Google Voice account with free texting and tell give everyone the GV number instead of giving out my cell phone number. 2) Provide my actual cell number knowing that occasionally someone will text me and occasionally I'll text someone and have to pay a "pay per use" fee on texting. 3) If there's any alternates to #1 or #2, please share. Please share your thoughts on this matter. Thank you, Neal |
| Posted: 30 Nov 2011 12:51 AM PST I did have a cell phone once, but I only wanted it for emergencies on the road. I only take long trips maybe once or twice a year, sometimes not even that. I would like to get a cell phone that does not have a monthly, or yearly subscription, only a usage fee, between twentyfive to fifty cents. And the phone should cost less than one hundred dollars. Does anyone know about anything like that? |
