| How-to: ZTE ZMAX: Master Reset and Update the OS Posted: 25 Sep 2014 07:17 AM PDT WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the device, including downloaded content, images, custom ringtones, applications, contacts etc. All settings will be restored to factory values. Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected. NOTE: Before proceeding with the factory reset, you may want to visit this link to learn how you can back up and restore data on the ZTE ZMAX. Master Reset via the Settings Menu: - While on the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
- Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Personal"
- Tap "Backup & reset" and then tap "Factory data reset"
- In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter the PIN, Password or Pattern
- Tap "Erase everything" to confirm
Master Reset Using Hardware Keys: NOTE: In case your smartphone crashes, freezes or otherwise prevents you from applying the factory reset via the settings menu, then you can apply the reset via a combination of hardware keys. To do so: - Turn off your smartphone
- Press and hold the "Volume Up" and "Power" buttons at the same time
- When the "ZTE" logo appears on-screen, release the keys
- Press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
- Press "Power" to select the option
- Press "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "Yes -- delete all user data"
- Press the "Power" key and wait for your smartphone to reboot
Checking for Software Updates: NOTE: Once you master reset your smartphone, all previous software updates will be lost as well. As such, it's highly recommended that you check for updates shortly after you master reset your device. To do so: - Tap "Apps" while viewing one of the home screens
- Go to "Settings"
- Swipe to "System" and then tap "About phone"
- Tap "Check now" and if an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it

| How-to: ZTE ZMAX: Back Up and Restore Data Posted: 25 Sep 2014 06:57 AM PDT Backing Up Applications: - Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Swipe to "Personal" and tap "Backup & reset"
- Mark the "Back up my data" check box in order to back up the data to Google servers
- Mark the "Automatic restore" check box
NOTE: Applications and app data will be automatically restored the next time you sign into your Google account. Backing Up Contacts: - Tap "All apps" while viewing the home screen
- Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Accounts"
- Tap the account you wish to use for backing up the contacts
- Press the "Menu" icon depicting three vertical dots
- Tap "Sync now"
NOTE: The contacts will be automatically restored the next time you sign in to your Google account. Back Up Media & Pictures: - Establish a USB connection between the ZTE ZMAX and your computer
- On the smartphone, tap "Media device (MTP)"
- On the computer, navigate to the phone's disk drive
- Locate the media files stored on your phone
- Copy the files and paste them in the desired location on your computer
- Once the process is finished, safely disconnect your smartphone from the PC
Restoring Media Files from a PC: - Connect your ZTE ZMAX to your computer via USB
- Tap "Media device (MTP)" on your smartphone
- On the computer, navigate to and open the phone's disk drive
- Open a second Windows Explorer window and locate the media files backed up on your computer
- Copy the files from your computer's HDD to your phone's storage
- After the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone from the PC, by first clicking the "Mass Storage Device" icon in the system tray
